Alaska is home to the two largest forests in the United States.  With 16.8 million acres, The Tongass National Forest is the largest while the Chugach National Forest (pronounced Chew'gatch) is 5.9 million acres in south central Alaska, south and east of Anchorage, encompassing the Prince William Sound area and much of the Kenai Peninsula.
