BLM Celebrates Responsible Mining, Community Outreach, and Public Land Stewardship Award Winners
Alaska Resource Education was honored to receive a national award from the Bureau of Land Management during the 18th annual Mineral Development Awards ceremony on Oct. 1, 2026. The National Mining Association hosted the ceremony in Washington, D.C. ARE Executive Director Beki Toussaint and Interior Program Coordinator Naomi Mitchell attended the ceremony to accept the Hardrock Mineral Community Outreach and Economic Security Award.

According to a press release from the BLM, the award “recognizes the successful coordination of projects with local and regional stakeholders, including those projects that contribute to quality of life or demonstrate concern for the long-term health of the local community. The 2026 winner is Alaska Resource Education for its work in community outreach and education about the mining sector to the public.”
ARE provides educational opportunities to students and teachers across Alaska to spark an interest in Alaska’s natural resources and the many careers within the industries.
